The Bats of Austin and Round Rock, Texas
While in Texas we had the pleasure of seeing 1.5 million Mexican free tailed bats come out to feed on mosquitos and other insects. People come from miles around and bring lawn chairs and beach blankets to sit out and watch as we do sunsets. Two great places to watch are at the Congressional Bridge in Austin and the I-35 underpass in Round Rock. Local business let you pull up a blanket or chair and watch at sunset. They do this from March to November before they migrate on. It is so cool I snapped a pic but it just doesn't do it justice.

I was just looking at a book about bat scientists today! Did you know that bats in Indiana are endangered? I rarely see any, although there used to be a bat house over by the canal. Neat pic!
ReplyDeleteI've seen this on the Discovery Channel.
ReplyDeleteI didn't know that bats in Indiana were endangered, that's kinda hard to believe. When I lived across the street from Columbian Park we had them in the upstairs of our house several times, it drove the cats nuts!
